What Is Forma?
Forma is a noninvasive, custom skin-tightening treatment. Using bipolar radiofrequency (RF) energy, it heats your skin both at its surface level and its subdermal layers. With live temperature-controlled technology, it’s a comfortable, easy, and quick procedure that firms your skin and lets you get back to your daily activities as soon as you leave our clinic.
As the RF energy penetrates the skin, it provides immediate contraction of existing collagen and elastin fibers to produce a noticeable tightening effect. It also stimulates the growth of new collagen and elastin, so you’ll continue to see improvement for several weeks after your final treatment. As a result, you get firmer and more defined contouring of your skin that can last for years with regular maintenance treatments.

How Is Forma Different?

With no recovery time needed, Forma treatments kickstart your skin’s transformation in the span of a lunch hour. It works over time, too—not just during your appointment. In the weeks following your procedure, new collagen and elastin will continue to be produced in treated areas, leading to lasting results and a firmer, tighter and more youthful-looking appearance. Forma is ideal for both men and women concerned about early-to-moderate signs of aging and loose skin on the face and body. It works well for most people in their 20s and older and provides noticeable results with the risks or downtime of more invasive procedures.
The Forma Process
Before your Forma treatment, you will consult with your provider at Vein & Cosmetic Center of Tampa Bay. We’ll ask you about your aesthetic goals to decide if Forma is the right skin-tightening treatment for you. Then, we’ll determine how many sessions you'll need to get your desired results. Most patients only need one short session a week for about six weeks. If we work with a smaller area or make minor changes, your treatment may take even less time.
When you start your treatment, your provider will use the handheld Forma device to deliver RF energy into the skin, which heats up to around 109°F. The process uses both the Forma wand operated by your provider and a hands-free skin topography technology to ensure you get the aesthetic results you want. With precise targeting and controlled heating, Forma stimulates collagen and elastin production to achieve younger, tighter skin.
What to Expect
Before you start your treatment, your provider can give you a numbing gel if you’re concerned about pain, have sensitive skin or have trouble tolerating heat. Even without the gel, Forma is considered a pain-free treatment, and most people find it pleasant. During your Forma treatment, your provider will adjust the heat to the appropriate temperature in real-time based on the areas of your face or body they work on.
They will press the Forma wand against the designated areas of your skin and adjust the heat as they move the device. Your Forma session will last 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the areas treated. Many of our patients see more contouring after the first session, but you’ll need to complete the entire treatment to see the best results. After the full treatment, you’ll notice your skin gradually adjusting on its own as it produces collagen and becomes more elastic. While pain is rare with Forma, you may notice your skin is more sensitive after your sessions. Follow your provider’s instructions to care for your skin during and after treatment. Once you've achieved your desired results, you can expect them to be long-lasting. However, improvements can be maintained with yearly touch-up treatments.

You may start to notice your skin tightening after the first Forma treatment. However, it can take a few weeks to see a big difference. After you complete your treatment, your skin will continue to produce collagen and elastin. You’ll see further improvements for several weeks before your skin completes its transformation.
Typically, we ask you to discontinue certain medications and supplements in the week before treatment, including NSAID pain relievers. Do not use products that may irritate your skin, including retinol, alpha- and beta-hydroxy acids and low-pH vitamin C formulas. Avoid prolonged sun exposure, as we will not apply treatment to sunburned skin.
On the day of your treatment, shower as usual, but do not apply lotions, oils, powders or makeup to the treatment areas.
Keep your skin clean using a gentle cleanser and lukewarm water. Hydrate the area, and avoid wearing makeup for two days after each treatment. You should apply a minimum SPF 30 sunscreen and avoid too much sun exposure. Your provider will also give you detailed instructions on how to care for your skin after treatment.
Forma results can last up to four years. However, your specific results and timeline may vary based on your age, number of treatments, and your skin care after treatment.
