Varicose Veins

Varicose veins are blood vessels which have become dilated, twisted, and swollen. Although they can occur anywhere in the body, they primarily affect the legs and feet. Millions of Americans, primarily women between the ages of 30 and 70, suffer from this unsightly and frequently painful vascular disorder. Our office offers proven varicose vein treatment. Learn about the causes and available treatments for varicose veins below.

Causes of Varicose Veins

Although the exact cause of varicose veins is still unknown, physicians have determined that varicose veins form when blood vessels become weak and malfunction. Varicose veins commonly form when blood can no longer flow easily against gravity. Whether a product of dysfunctional valves or weakened walls, the end result is usually bulging veins and leg pain.

There are a number of factors that seem to contribute to poor blood vessel functioning, including:

Other Disorders

Acne

One of the most common skin conditions, acne occurs when sebaceous glands become overactive and produce excess oil, causing follicles to become plugged. These plugged follicles can then become inflamed, causing pimples, nodules and cysts. Although acne is not harmful to health and will usually subside over time, it can have a long-term, negative effect on a person's confidence and self-esteem. Our practice offers various methods of preventing and reducing acne, including topical treatments such as Obagi CLENZIderm M.D.™, lasers, photodynamic therapy, Blu-U® Light, and chemical peels.

Age Spots

Age spots are brownish patches that appear on the skin as a person ages, resulting from either sun damage or genetics. Also known as liver spots, these patches resemble large freckles and usually appear on the face, neck, hands, feet, or legs. Although they are not harmful, many people wish to have them removed for cosmetic reasons. Dr. Jeffrey A. Hunt can safely eliminate these marks using Photofacial™, Fraxel®, or Pixel® resurfacing treatments.

These permanent marks vary in color and form, and can be classified as either pigmented or vascular. Although most birth marks are harmless, some may pose serious problems and require treatment. Dr. Jeffrey A. Hunt can diagnose and treat these markings using Intense Pulsed Light (IPL®) Therapy, PhotoDerm™ or Yag laser therapy.

There are a wide variety of advanced skin care treatments available for sun damage, ranging from prescription skin care products such as Obagi® to the latest skin resurfacing lasers (Fraxel®, Pixel®) in combination with IPL® (intense pulsed light ).

Wrinkles

Lines and wrinkles appear where skin naturally folds and creases, becoming more and more permanent as time goes on.
